Leamington, Wheatley Fishing Report for 2013
I think we are all starting to get a bit eager to fish the waters around Leamington, Pelee and Wheatley. I put together a little primer to offer a quick insight showing when things began to pick up steam in the Leamington and Wheatley area for rainbow trout and walleye.
NOTE** Water temps are a little behind this year and I expect things to be at least a week later this year with typical weather!
2012 Wheatley Leamington Highlights
Sunday, May 27th, 2012 at 3:49 pm Things are picking up steam here on the North shore of Lake Erie. There are reports of walleye being taken in the Leamington area in the typical early season locations such as I reported last year at this time. See http://www.tomsvirtualmall.com/walleye-leamington-june-12-2011 Fishermen have also begun to prospect the water out of the Wheatley area. There have been a couple of rainbow trout boated already.
Friday, June 8th, 2012 at 7:45 am Fishing About to Turn On at Wheatley I broke the ice yesterday fishing out of Wheatley. I went out to my usual stomping grounds SSE and started around the well marker there. I worked out and east and picked up 2 walleye in 52 feet of water. It was not a huge day but picking up 2 fish was significant.
Wednesday, June 27th, 2012 at 3:00 pm Rainbow Walleye Fishing Wheatley SS Minnow Catches Walleye Rainbow Fishing Wheatley Things are really picking up steam fishing out of Wheatley. I went out today and boated 9 walleye and 1 rainbow. I badly mishandled the net and lost 2 additional nice walleye. I caught my walleye SE in 54 feet of water and my rainbow came at 60 feet of water. I was releasing walleye by 8:00 AM and packed up for the day at 11:00 AM.
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 at 7:58 am Rainbow and walleye fishing really picking up. I think I can safely say we are officially there now and we should have good fishing for a couple months until the water starts to cool and winds mix it up. Saturday was a little bit tough but still showed great potential. I actually fished a pretty long day for my usual and fished into mid afternoon. I covered a little more territory than usual. I ended up catching 5 walleyes and 2 rainbows.
Monday, July 9th, 2012 at 8:12 am Just a quick report here – went out Monday and fished the morning. Boated 7 walleye and 3 rainbows and lost 1 rainbow. Walleyes hit on Yeck Killer Bee early and 70-75 feet of line, 50 feet of water on big dipseys. Rainbows came a bit later in 56 feet of water on my custom Yeck RDP and Yeck Highway Huckleberry. I dropped a bit more line (80 feet) on the big dipsey.

Friday, July 8th, 2011 at 8:15 am Rainbow, Walleye Fishing Wheatley Things are shaping up nicely for a great season of fishing in the Wheatley area. I was fishing out of Wheatley marina again on Wednesday with an older gentleman you will notice in an earlier post. We had a busy day and the fish are big. We ran out of cooler space actually. We boated 6 very nice rainbow trout and 5 large walleyes. We were fishing about 4-5 miles SE of the harbor and spent most of our time in 50 feet of water.
