Cold Front and Wave Action Disrupt Wheatley Fishing

Surface Temps Plummet

Surface Temps Plummet

I went out fishing with my son Tyler again Saturday morning. The water had some pretty good swells held over from the winds Friday from the east side. It takes quite a while for things to flatten out from those winds.

We managed to boat 9 walleyes by 11:30 AM but we didn’t have so much as a rip from the rainbows. I understand there were only a half dozen bows reported for the day even though there was standing room only in the parking areas available.

A cold front will shut down those fish for a couple of days and I heard rumors of some level of temperature inversion due to wind and wave action. I am not sure just how much the thermocline has been disturbed. It is my hope that the water temps and thermocline re-establish by the coming weekend in time for the much awaited Big Boyz Fishing Tournament. It is always an exciting event that offers prizes daily July 27 through August 5.
