Wheatley Fishing Tournament Ends Successfully
Well, another fishing tournament out of Wheatley has come to an end. It was an extremely unusual year. We had a major temperature rollover that upset the traditonal rainbow holding area and got the bows moving away early this season. By day 8, the pack was fishing 18.5 miles east and still experiencing poor results. Overall it was still a great tournament.
My daughter-in-law was a big winner with the second largest walleye of the tournament. Tyler and his family fish the Wheatley area very well and have several top ranking fish during this tournament. Good job – Tyler, Christina and Hunter, Mcinnus!
I can’t say enough good about the harbour staff and management. They get up early and work hard to try and keep things moving efficiently at the dock. The tournament organizers obviously work very hard and give us a well run tournament. In this day and age, those people must have worked exremely hard to be able to offer the huge number of quality draw prizes and tournament prizes.
The run of rainbow trout has been a boon to area fishermen but it could not be what it has turned out to be without the foresight of the Wheatley people to make great docking improvements and the club to operate this Great Tournament.
In summing up the year, I must mention Ken Schneider again who passed away before the season began. He worked hard at setting the example and showing how patrons should be treated. He was great for the Wheatley fishing and the young ladies and gentlemen that work the boat ramp now, display the qualities he lived. The young folks that helped us in and out of the water and to our vehicles were efficient and friendly even through some crazy periods.
THANK YOU – Wheatley, Harbour Staff, The Sportsman’s Club and Ken Schneider!!!
See you next year!
