Now Is An Ideal Time To Take A River Fishing Vacation
There is little that can compare to the experience of hooking a cutthroat trout among the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies. More than a simple fishing trip, many anglers feel an almost mystical experience fly-fishing the cold waters of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Flowing between Aspen and Glenwood Springs, the Roaring Fork Valley consists of four beautiful rivers: the Colorado, the Roaring Fork, the Frying Pan, and the Crystal. The Roaring Fork, from Aspen to the Upper Woody Creek Bridge, and from the confluence with the Crystal River north of Carbondale {with the Colorado River|joins the Colorado River| the confluence with the Colorado River, is Gold Medal Water for trout fishing, as designated by the Colorado Wildlife Commission.

The river’s prestige does not prevent the average angler or family simply looking for a vacation in Colorado from fully enjoying the experience of fishing the valley. There are lots of guided fishing tours and the majority offer rental equipment and lessons on fly-fishing, as the casting and retrieving process may be unfamiliar to the average angler. A fishing guide can provide the rafts for float fishing, or a dory boat if you are up to braving some rapids. Even if you are already familiar with fly-fishing guides are commonly seasoned area anglers who can make your trip more better by putting you in a great spot to catch fish.

The segment from Carbondale to Glenwood Springs is teeming with trout. Pools of pocket water pepper this area, as well as frequent riffles and shelves that trout love to congregate on.

The Roaring Fork Valley’s high elevation and year-round hatches provide fishing year-round so fishing can be as qualityin January as it is in mid-summer, although mid-summer through early fall is the optimum time. Much of the valley runs through the White River National Forest, so public access is readily available.

There is a robust population of fish up and down the valley. Rainbow, brook, and brown trout swim the waters there, as well as abundant supplies of mountain whitefish.

The Roaring Fork begins above 10,000 feet near Independence Pass . Twisting down through the valley to its confluence with the Colorado; the Roaring Fork can be floated during the summer thanks to run-off from melting snow.

The daily limit of trout is four. Whitefish possession has no limit.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife can give you all of the licensing and regulatory information. Segments of the Roaring Fork have special regulations. You can also apply for a fishing license online.

Fly-fishing is not the only thing special about the Roaring Fork Valley. Top-notch ski resorts abound, and who could resist an afternoon in downtown Aspen. Accommodations in the valley can fit into any budget.
